Dating Single Parents: Some Tips
Written by Admin on August 25, 2009 – 3:31 am -
If you are a single parent, it is often a good idea to date another single parent. This is because a person who shares a similar experience as yours will have more chances to have a better understanding of you. However, there are a number of psychological as well as practical barriers in front of single parents to start dating. Here are a few tips to help them out.
Talk to your children
Many parents make the mistake of keeping their children in the dark while dating until the last moment and then one day the children suddenly learn that they are going to have a new mom/dad. Well, it will seem to them that a new parent is being forced upon them and they may become very resentful towards both you and your partner.
Therefore, it is better to discuss with your children and tell them what you are going to do and why. Be honest and tell them that it is not only for them but for yourself also as you feel very lonely. When you appeal to their sympathy they will be more prone to accept the new situation.
Also, you need to ask them what they wish their new dad/mom to be like. It is a great idea to include your children in the whole process by going through the profiles of potential dates together on a dating website, asking for your children’s opinion of the dress you are going to wear and so on and so forth.
Be cautious
As you are with children, you are doubly vulnerable to any attempt of stalking. Therefore, be very cautious about online dating. Sign up with a well known website for dating single parents. Join online forums of single parents and ask for advice. There will be a lot of sympathetic people out there to guide you to the right site. Don’t give out any of your personal details including your email ID until you have been chatting with a person for a few weeks and have reasons to believe that she is a genuine candidate.
